ragetraveler:

I have a fear of making kandi :/ or really, the fear that my kandi will look like shit. I hate it when anything I do is shit, and kandi just hits this on a whole new level. -.-

Just try and remember that there’s no right or wrong way to make kandi. Just make whatever feels good to you, if you like it, then that’s all that matters.

… you do know that we know that means you’re just going to spend it… right?

I’m not absolutelyopposed to selling kandi, but I am opposed to it when you’re being shitty about it.

charmander:

Just stop. You look ridiculous.

Ehhhh, I’m inclined to agree, to a degree.

I’m tired of seeing “Go to my Etsy shop where you can buy 1 single for 3.99!!”. But I don’t mind seeing “Hey, I’m raising money for charity so I’m selling kandikinis”. Or “Hey, I’m just trying to buy some more beads so here’s this epic I made for a really fair price.”

I have been seeing some controversy on here about selling kandi and just needed some advice. I work in a children’s salon and kids are always loving my kandi. But I am always broke and can’t afford to make kandi for everyone. So would it be wrong to have kandi available to buy in the salon? I want to make kids happy but just can’t afford to make bracelets for everyone. Thoughts?

Kiiiiind of? It kinda a sketchy area. I’m wary of selling kandi in any sort of store front, even if it just is to make kids happy (I mean, when it boils down to it, the kids aren’t buying it, the parents are, in theory). But, at the same time, it’s for kids. I wouldn’t do it on a large scale, maybe every so often, but primarily, I’d encourage the kids to tell their parents about kandi, and how much they like it, so that hopefully they’re parents will be inspired to buy them beads and string of their own.

I think the main problem people have with people selling kandi is that it tends to be done purely for profit. Not to spread PLUR or make friends, but just to capitalize on the EDM scene and make some cash. So long as you aren’t doing it for that, I think doing it small scale for kids is fine. It’s just kinda a fine line.

Confession: I’ve never actually traded Kandi with anyone. I live in the south and I don’t really know anyone else who wears it. Plus i don’t actually rave because I’m not a real party-goer, so I don’t meet people who have it. I work and stay inside a lot and just love Kandi. I’d love to trade if I ever met anyone though.

Try snail mail trades. Just post around or look under the ‘kandi trade’ tags and see if anyone wants to trade via mail. I’m a grad student and was pretty much perma-too busy or too broke to rave, but Iove getting new kandi, so I started trading via mail. It’s a great way to meet people.

rave—mommy:

omg why is this so hard?!

Are you trying to make a 3D or a picture/pattern?

heatherkittie:

A bunch of people here are against the buying and selling of kandi.

Why don’t you guys start a group for the people who would buy kandi, and if they need anything (like a mask, or a kandikini, or just cuffs) you make it for them with your supplies and send it to them FOR FREE, so they don’t have to buy it.
Or at least make a list of people who will volunteer their time, skills, and money, so that when people are looking to buy, they can just come to one of you for pieces for free.

If you cant do that, then let people buy and sell as they please and don’t bash on us.
Because I sure as hell won’t do something for free, and I bet a lot of you people who complain about it won’t either.

Just a thought

Actually, I’ve made things and just sent them to people, not as a trade, but because they posted and asked for kandi, because it’s a cool thing to do, it’s PLUR, and it’s a great way to make friends. People do actually just give away kandi, even advanced/larger pieces, not for profit or even for other pieces, but just to do it.

Personally, I have a problem with selling kandi on a small scale. I think selling simple singles or whatever for exorbitant prices is shitty. But I think if you’re selling plur packages or kandikini’s or large cuffs for a fair price, that’s fine. I don’t think the issue comes from selling kandi for the cost it takes to make it, plus a bit more for the time. The problem comes from people who have no idea what kandi really means to people selling a single for 5 dollars just to make a quick buck, and that’s shitty.

charmander:

and as if that isn’t stupid enough on its own, it actually has notes. How disappointing.

^This

Also, who did you murder to get that username?

charmander:

I wish I had skills that were applicable for life. Kandi is going to get me nowhere.

But kandi makes you happy, and that’ll get you places. And kandi helps you met people, which can definitely get you going. Just gotta think outside the box. Never know who you’ll meet during a trade, or who will be impressed or made happy by your kandi.

electricdaisycats:

gonna give perlers a shot.

GAH where did you find your perlers? I’ve been searching stores for forever trying to find some that were separated and not one giant mixed together jar.
